DUAA 2025 UPDATE: Updated June 2026 to reflect the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA), which from 5 February 2026 introduced new exemptions from cookie consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Non-compliance with PECR now carries fines of up to £17.5 million or 4% of global turnover — aligned with UK GDPR levels.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to the website operator.

2. Our Approach to Cookie Consent

The rules around cookies changed on 5 February 2026 under the DUAA. The key change is:

• Strictly necessary cookies: never required consent — unchanged

• Analytics / statistical cookies (used only to count visits and measure performance): no longer require prior consent under the new DUAA exemption, provided we offer a clear and easy opt-out

• Functionality cookies (remembering your preferences): no longer require prior consent under certain conditions, provided we offer a clear opt-out

• Marketing / tracking cookies (used to serve targeted advertising): still require your explicit prior consent — this has not changed

We will always be transparent about the cookies we use and provide you with an easy way to manage your preferences.

6. PECR Enforcement

The DUAA has significantly increased the penalties for non-compliance with PECR (the regulations that govern cookies). Fines are now aligned with UK GDPR — up to £17.5 million or 4% of global annual turnover. The ICO has indicated it will take a proportionate approach to enforcement during the transition period.
