NEWS STORY- Foreign criminals excluded from UK under strict new rules
The UK government has introduced stricter immigration rules to prevent foreign criminals from entering or remaining in the country. Under the new policy, foreign nationals who have received a suspended sentence of 12 months or more, either in the UK or abroad, can now have their visa refused or cancelled, regardless of when the offence occurred.
This strengthens existing powers that already allow the UK to deport foreign nationals sentenced to at least 12 months in prison. The new rules aim to better protect the public and reinforce the principle that individuals seeking to live in the UK must meet good character requirements, including having no serious criminal history.
The changes are due to come into force on 26 March and form part of wider immigration reforms intended to tighten border security and make it easier to remove foreign offenders from the UK.
In short: The government is strengthening immigration rules so that foreign nationals with serious criminal convictions can be refused entry, have visas cancelled, or be removed from the UK more easily.
