NEWS STORY- Biggest crime-fighting shake up in decades as police gain new powers to tackle local crime as the landmark Crime and Policing Bill receives Royal Assent

The Crime and Policing Bill was granted Royal Assent on 29 April 2026 and is now law. Provisions within the Act aimed at safeguarding children and young people include a new legal duty to report child sexual abuse, the creation of a specific offence for child criminal exploitation, and making it illegal to create, modify, distribute, or offer AI “nudification tools.” The Act’s provisions apply differently across various parts of the UK.
